New Orleans is a great big amalgam of passion and irony where the sacred and the carnal are constantly rubbing elbows, coagulating and becoming strange bedfellows. Somewhere within the decay and chaos of this parochial city, there is a terrific, organized vitality unique to any other place in the world. It is a remarkable world of surreal beauty and profound self-identity, marked by an uneasy peace. These paintings personify my experiences and impressions of this special place and the areas that surround it. In these works, I hoped to capture the spirit of the people, places and events that have marked my life here in this unusual "country" of New Orleans and the gracious dichotomy of the South. If you look closely, you might see something familiar in each piece.
